The Senegalese commission d’observation du croissant lunaire de Touba has announced that the first day of the month of Safar would be tomorrow and, therefore, that the 2018 Magal de Touba would take place on Sunday, October 28, 2018.
After years of hesitation (2007-03-09, 2009-11-26, 2011-01-22, and 2011-10-26), the Magal de Touba was declared a one-off public holiday in Senegal for the first time in 2012, albeit after a lot of last-minute delays (2011-11-15, 2011-12-17, and 2012-01-11). The Magal de Touba was once again declared a one-off public holiday in Senegal (2012-11-02 and 2012-12-07) in 2013, when, following elections (2012-12-07), the Senegalese Cabinet of Ministers approved a decree declaring Tuesday, January 1st, 2013, the date of the first Magal de Touba of 2013, as a non-working public holiday throughout Sénégal ("déclaré férié, chômé et payé, la journée célébrant le Grand Magal de Touba édition 2013").
A year later (2013-10-29), the Prime Minister of Senegal, Aminata Touré, and her government finally drafted legislation declaring the Magal de Touba as an annual non-working public holiday in Senegal. This culminated (2013-12-01 and 2013-11-26) with Senegal's parliament unanimously approving the bill ("Projet de loi n°10/2013 complétant et modifiant certaines dispositions de la loi n° 74-52 du 04 novembre 1974 relative à la fête nationale et aux fêtes légales, modifiée") which made the Magal de Touba a new official annual non-working public holiday in Senegal, beginning 3 years ago (2017-10-22, 2017-10-13, 2017-09-21, 2016-11-01 and 2015-11-13).
