Following yesterday's Bangladesh Cabinet meeting, the Cabinet Secretary, Mohammad Shafiul Alam, announced that during the said Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the annual list of official non-working public holidays in Bangladesh for the upcoming calendar year 2020, had been approved, including ordinary public holidays in Bangladesh and Bangladesh public holidays under executive order.
As was the case for the past 3 years (2018-10-30, 2017-11-06 and 2016-11-25), but contrary to the preceding year (2015-10-02), when a draft of the list of proposed Bangladesh 2016 public holidays had been circulated a month before the official announcement of the list of the Bangladesh 2016 public holidays (2015-11-02), this year's official non-working public holidays in Bangladesh for the upcoming calendar year 2020, came with no public consultation, around the same time as last year.
After today's cabinet approval, the public administration ministry will issue a gazetted list of the annual list of official non-working public holidays in Bangladesh for the upcoming calendar year 2020, as per custom (2016-12-03, 2014-11-03, 2013-11-15, 2012-11-30,...).
In related news, following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the Islamic Foundation's Baitul Mukarram office, the Islamic Foundation of Bangladesh announced that the moon of Rabiul Awal was sighted in Bangladesh on Tuesday, and therefore that the Eid-e-Miladunnabi annual public holiday of Bangladesh commemorating the Birthday of the Prophet, would be observed, in Bangladesh, on Sunday, November 10, 2019.
