The Government of Botswana has published a tweet declaring Wednesday to Friday, October 23-25, 2019, as non-working public holidays in Botswana, on account of the upcoming presidential and legislative elections of Botswana ("President Dr. Mokgweetsi says October 23rd, 24th and 25th will be declared paid public holidays").
The aforementioned announcement that October 23-24-25, 2019, will be declared paid public holidays in Botswana on account of the upcoming presidential and legislative elections of Botswana, are in line with past announcements of public holidays in Botswana, also on the occasion of past elections, such as in 2014, when the Government of Botswana published the Statutory Instrument No. 117 and 118 of 2014 in the Government Gazette of October 13, 2014, thus making the previously announced Friday, October 24, 2014, one-off non-working public holiday in Botswana, official (2014-10-16 and 2014-08-07).
Five years before, the declaration of a one-off non-working public holiday in Botswana, on account of the Friday, October 16, 2009, elections, led to a lot of debate before it was declared a one-off public holiday (2007-07-20, 2008-08-22, 2008-11-27, 2009-01-26, and 2009-03-14).
