Guatemala Minister of Labor, Gabriel Aguilera, has announced that Monday, September 16, 2019, is not a non-working public holiday in Guatemala, on account of the annual September 15 public holiday of Guatemala falling on a Sunday in 2019, and that the government of Guatemala had no plans to declare a day in lieu non-working public holiday on that date in Guatemala.
The aforementioned announcement that Monday, September 16, 2019, would not be a non-working public holiday in Guatemala, on account of the annual September 15 public holiday of Guatemala falling on a Sunday in 2019, is in line with the announced (2018-12-31) list of official non-working public holidays in Guatemala for the calendar year 2019.
But, since 2018, the list of annual public holidays in Guatemala is based on the more recent Law of Internal Tourism (2018-10-11, 2018-09-26 and 2018-08-09) which, through the Decreto 19-2018, mandates that that only the May 1st, June 30th and October 20th, annual public holidays, when falling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays, should be moved to the working day immediately before or after the weekend.
