The state secretary of the Government of Malaysia's state of Johor, Datuk Azmi Rohani, has announced that Sunday, November 3, 2019, would be a one-off non-working public holiday throughout Johor State, after the Johor team was crowned Malaysia Cup champions ("The special public holiday is given as a mark of celebration and our show of gratitude to all of the JDT supporters that had given their undivided support and commitment to the team").

Sports-related state public holidays are not uncommon in Malaysia (2018-10-28, 2018-10-26, 2017-11-04, 2017-11-01, 2016-10-31, 2016-05-14, 2015-12-12, 2015-12-12, 2015-10-31, 2015-05-19, 2014-11-02, 2013-11-01, 2013-06-13, 2012-10-15, 2012-05-14, 2011-11-21, 2011-06-13, 2011-06-11, 2010-12-30, 2010-12-29, 2010-10-30, 2009-11-04,...).

The reason for the need to declare a Sunday, non-working, public holiday, is that in Malaysia's States of Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, where the weekend has traditionally been observed on Friday/Saturday, joined by Johor, a few years ago (2013-11-23).
