Latvia Mulls Extended 2020 Ligo Public Holidays

The Ministry of Welfare of Latvia has is reported to be confirming earlier reports that Monday, June 22, 2020, would be declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Latvia to link the annual public holiday of Ligo with the preceding weekend.

In the aforementioned announcement was hinted at, last month (2019-05-10), when the government of Latvia released the draft rules "On the transfer of working days in 2020" annual official list of official non-working national public holidays in Latvia, and bridge non-working public holidays in Latvia, for the upcoming calendar year 2020, which must be approved by July 1st at the latest.

The practice of declaring additional, one-off, bridge public holidays, compensated by the same number of Saturday working days, had been halted in 2012 (2012-01-04), but only for a year (2013-01-16).
