Malawi's Chief Secretary to the Government and the Office of the President and Cabinet, Lloyd Muhara, has signed a letter granting 2 weeks of public sector holidays, from Saturday, December 21, 2019, until Sunday, January 5, 2020, inclusively.
The aforementioned announcement ("the holiday is meant for the public officers to celebrate the Christmas and the New Year Festivity with their friends and families") means that Malawi's civil servants will wind up officials duties on December 20, 2019, and resume work on January 6, 2020, and is in addition to the list of official non-working public holidays in Malawi for the calendar year 2019, as released by the Malawi Government, earlier this year (2019-03-13).
The extended Christmas public sector holidays are a regular occurrence in Malawi (2018-12-12 and 2017-12-01), and are specified as being reserved for the public sector.
