The Government of the Malaysian state of Kedah has announced the new date for the birthday celebration of the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Sultan Badlishah, and annual public holiday in Kedah state, to be the third Sunday of June.
Two years ago (2017-11-15), the Government of the Malaysian state of Kedah had announced that the then upcoming January 21, 2018, state public holiday for the Birthday of the Sultan of Kedah, had been canceled and that no replacement date had been decided upon yet, thus amending the previous summer's release (2017-08-01) by Malaysia's Cabinet's and the Constitution and Government Relations Department of the Prime Minister's Office of the annual official Federal Public Holidays Schedule 2018 and State Public Holiday Schedule 2018 containing the list of official national non-working public holidays in Malaysia for the calendar year 2018 as well as the state-specific regional non-working public holidays in Malaysia for the calendar year 2018.
Then, last year (2018-10-04), the Government of the Malaysian state of Kedah announced that October 22 had been declared as an occasional (one-off) state public holiday in conjunction with the Installation of the 29th Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah.
Today's announcement of the new date for the annual public holiday in Kedah state marking its sultan's birthday, was made by State secretary, Datuk Paduka Ammar Shaikh Mahmood Naim ("As such the public holiday which was earlier set on Jan 19, 2020 (Sunday) or 23 Jamadilawal 1441 will be amended"), thus amending the list of 2020 public holidays in Malaysia, as announced this past summer by Malaysia's Cabinet's and the Constitution and Government Relations Department of the Prime Minister's Office (2019-07-08).
Malaysia's States of Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, had traditionally been observing a Friday/Saturday weekend, and were joined by Johor, a few years ago (2013-11-23).
