The government of the Maldives' President Office's Spokesperson, Ibrahim Hood, has released an extended list of the official public holidays in the Maldives for the calendar year 2020.

As was the case in past years (2019-01-09, 2018-01-15, 2017-01-09, 2016-01-04, 2015-01-06, 2014-01-08, 2013-01-07, 2012-01-06, 2011-01-04, 2010-01-05, 2009-01-06, 2008-01-04 and 2007-01-05), the aforementioned list of official public holidays in the Maldives for the calendar year 2020 confirms the dates of the Maldives public holidays that are based on the Islamic calendar, and adds the new annual Labour Day public holiday announced a decade ago (2011-04-29).

Usually, the annual list of public holidays in the Maldives is amended a few times a year by the declaration of one-off public holidays (2019-07-17, 2019-05-02, 2019-04-04, and 2019-01-21, this past year only).

But, this time, President Office's Spokesperson Ibrahim Hood also announced 6 additional public sector holidays to be observed in the Maldives in 2020, as declared by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who stated that "the new holidays were assigned to ease civilians and extend already existing public and national holidays".
