Nicaragua Confirms September 14-17 Public Holidays

Nicaragua's Ministry of Labor has confirmed that Saturday and Sunday, September 14-15, 2019, as well as Monday and Tuesday, September 16 and 17, 2019, would be non-working public holidays (feriados nacionales obligatorios) in Nicaragua to mark the annual non-working public holidays commemorating the Battle of San Jacinto and Nicaragua's Independence Day public holiday ("se mantienen los cuatro días de feriados por motivo de fiestas patrias desde el sábado 14 hasta el martes 17 de septiembre, como inicialmente se anunció").

The aforementioned announcement stems from the declaration, earlier this month (2019-09-06), by Nicaragua's Vice-President, Rosario Murillo that the Saturday and Sunday, September 14-15, 2019, non-working public holidays of Nicaragua, commemorating the Battle of San Jacinto and Nicaragua's Independence Day public holiday, would be extended by 2 days, Monday and Tuesday, September 16 and 17, 2019.

Soon after, the Nicaraguan Higher Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep) contested the decision of the Ministry of Labor (Mitrab), with its president, José Adán Aguerri, stating that the extension of the 2019 annual non-working public holidays commemorating the Battle of San Jacinto and Nicaragua's Independence Day public holiday, did not comply with the laws.
