Earlier tonight, Oman's Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs (MERA) announced that the Moon of Muharram had been sighted and therefore that the first day of Muharram will be on Sunday, September 1, 2019, "which will also be an official holiday for employees in ministries and public bodies and other units of the administrative apparatus of the state and the private sector employees".
Last week (2019-08-25), Oman's Minister of Manpower had announced that the non-working public holiday in Oman on the occasion of the upcoming annual Hijri New Year 1441 (Islamic New Year in the calendar year 2019), would be an official non-working public holiday "for employees of private and public sector companies, institutions and establishments under the provisions of the Labour Law".
As was the case in the recent (2019-08-19) UAE announcement that both public and private sector employees of the UAE would get a non-working public holiday on Muharram 1, Hijri 1441, the date of the aforementioned announced Omani non-working Islamic new year public holiday remained to be announced, although, in the meantime, the UAE has declared its public holiday for the Islamic New Year 1441 one day earlier than Oman (2019-08-30).
