Three panels of the Philippines Senate panels have approved moving the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, and traditional one-off non-working public holidays, from May 2020 to May 2023.

Today's approval of a postponement of the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to 2023 by the Philippines senate, follows a precursory announcement by the Philippines Commission on Elections (Comelec), earlier this month (2019-09-10), that the May 11, 2020, Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, and traditionally expected public holiday in the Philippines, might be postponed.

Normally, the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections occur every 3 years, and are often accompanied by the declaration of a one-off public holiday in the Philippines (2018-05-02, 2013-10-04, 2013-10-01, 2010-10-26, 2010-10-07, 2010-10-03, and 2007-10-17).

The 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections were supposed to be held in late 2016, but were twice postponed, once to 2017 and a second time to 2018.
