Chamber of Deputies has, in turn, approved a bill which would oblige the Romanian Government to announce, no later than January 15, all the one-off public holidays it intended to declare for the year.
Today's vote by the Chamber of Deputies, follows this past winter's approval of the same amendments by Romania's Senate (2019-03-16), following a year of multiple last-minute declaration of one-off public holidays in Romania (2018-12-18, 2018-08-02, 2018-04-12, 2018-03-12, 2018-02-28 and 2018-02-25).
The draft amendment was adopted by a vote of 269 to 1, and states that "Until the 15th of January of each year, by the Government decision, for the staff in the budgetary system, the working days for which are granted days off, days preceding and / or following the legal holidays in which no work is done , as well as the days when the hours worked are not recovered".
As usual, any law passed by both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies must then be signed into law by the President of Romania, before it becomes law.
