Reacting to the recent addition of December 24 to the list of the public holidays of Malaysia's state of Sabah, the Chief Minister of Malaysia's State of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg, has stated that Sarawak might observe December 24 as a new state public holiday, under certain circumstances ("the state government may consider declaring an additional day as a public holiday to celebrate Christmas provided there is a vacancy for another public holiday in the gazette").
On Friday (2019-12-13), Malaysia's State of Sabah announced that Sabah would observe December 24 as a state public holiday from this year onward.
Currently, the list of state public holidays in Malaysia's State of Sarawak are governed by the "Jadual Hari Kelepasan Am Negeri 2019" (State Public Holiday Schedule 2019), jointly released last year (2018-09-01), and the State Public Holiday Schedule 2020 released this past summer (2019-07-08).
