South Korea April 11 Public Holiday Update

A bill has been introduced in South Korea's Parliament to declare April 11 and September 17 as new annual national non-working public holidays in South Korea.

Two months ago (2019-02-17), we had reported that the Korean President would seek cabinet approval to declare Thursday, April 11, 2019, as a one-off non-working public holiday in South Korea to commemorate the centennial of the government in exile in Shanghai.

But, in the end (2019-03-06), the Cheong Wa Dae (the Korean presidential residence) has indicated that it was abandoning the idea of declaring Thursday, April 11, 2019, as a one-off non-working public holiday in South Korea to commemorate the centennial of the government in exile in Shanghai.

In recent years, some tentatively announced one-off public holidays in South Korea came to pass while others did not (2018-04-12, 2018-04-10, 2017-09-05, 2017-08-27, 2016-04-28, 2016-04-25, 2015-08-04, 2015-08-02).
