The government of Timor Leste has announced that it had decided to declare a one-off public sector holiday in Timor Leste on September 20, 2019, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the arrival of the INTERFET in Timor Leste.
Today's announcement of the declaration of a one-off public sector holiday in Timor Leste on September 20, 2019, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the arrival of the INTERFET in Timor Leste, follows last month's declaration by the government of Timor Leste of an extended period of additional day-off public sector holidays in Timor Leste "between the afternoon of August 26 and August 29, 2019, on the occasion of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Popular Consultation and INTERFET mission" (2019-08-23).
According to the Secretariat of State of the Council of Ministers of Timor Leste, the aforementioned decision is based on law No.10/2005, which overhauled Timor Leste's public holidays (2005-08-12) and is in addition to the list of official public holidays in Timor Leste for the calendar year 2019, which was announced at the beginning of this year (2019-02-08).
