Tripura 2020 Public Holiday Announced

The Government of India's State of Tripura has released its list of the days which will be non-working public holidays in Tripura for the upcoming calendar year 2020 in the Government Notification No.F.17(5)-GA (SA)/2019/5192 ("The Governor, Tripura is pleased to notify that all the Government Offices and all Revenue and Executive Magistrates Courts under the Government of Tripura, will remain closed on the following day during the year-2020.").

The aforementioned notification of the 2022 public holidays in India's state of Tripura, as contained in the Government Notification No.F.17(5)-GA (SA)/2019/5192, is signed by S.K. Debbarma, the Under Secretary to the Government of Tripura.

As usual, it contains a list of the traditional public holidays of Tripura which, in 2020, fall either on a Sunday, or the second or fourth Saturday of the month ("In the year 2020, the following festivals/occasions viz. Republic Day (26th January), Kharchi Puja (28th June) Muharram (30th August) and Maha Navami (25th October) fall Sunday. Maha Ashtami (24th October) falls on 4th Saturday and Diwali (14th November) falls on 2nd Saturday. As such, these days have not been included in the list of holiday.").

The list of 2020 restricted holidays in Tripura ("The Governor, Tripura is pleased to append list of Restricted Holidays as under. The Government employees may be allowed to avail him/her of any four holidays chosen by him/her out of the list of Restricted Holidays during the year 2020.") also comes with a footnote listing the traditionally declared restricted public holidays of Tripura which fall either on a Sunday, or the second or fourth Saturday of the month during the upcoming calendar year ("In the year 2020, the festivals Biswakarma Puja and Mahalaya (17th September) fall on same day and the festival Mahalaya (17th September) is included in the list of Government holiday. As such, this day has not been included in the list of restricted holiday.").

Note that the Government Notification No.F.17(5)-GA (SA)/2019/5192, listing the 2020 public holidays in Tripura, comes along with a separate list of bank holidays in the Indian State of Tripura in 2020 ("In exercise of powers conferred by the explanation to the Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act., 1881, (XXVI OF 1881), read with Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Notification No.21/18/72-Judl. Dated 18.04.1972, the Governor of Tripura is pleased to declare the following days to be the public holidays for Banks, Financial Institutions situated in Tripura during the year 2020.") with the similar mention of bank holidays falling on a non-working day in 2020 ("In the year 2020, the following festivals/ occasions viz. Republic Day (26th January), Kharchi Puja (28th June) Muharram (30th August) and Maha Navami (25th October) fall on Sunday. Maha Ashtami (24th October) falls on 4th Saturday and Diwali (14th November)falls on 2nd Saturday. As such, these days have not been included in the list of holiday.").
