The State Government of India's state of Assam has declared government of Assam public holidays from November 13 to November 16, 2020, "on the occasion of Diwali, Kali Puja and Gorkha Bhai Tika".
Last week (2020-11-07), the Chief Minister of the Government of India's state of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, had already declared Monday, November 16, 2020, as a government public holiday in India's state of Assam, on the occasion of Bhai Dooj, the festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, also known as Bhai Phonta by Bengalis and as Bhai Tika by Gorkhas.
Today's announcement further extends the list of Assam 2020 public holidays which was released late last year (2019-12-01), in the Government Notification No.GAG(A).81/2016/494), which only listed Bhai Dooj as a restricted holiday, a change that was similarly made a few years ago, when the same Chief Minister of the Government of India's state of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, declared Monday, October 17, 2016, on the occasion of Kati Bihu, as a public holiday, thus amending the list of 2015 public holidays in Assam, which had listed the 2015 Kati Bihu as a restricted holiday (2016-10-15).
