Costa Rica's Ministry of Labour (Ministerio de Trabajo y Seguridad Social - MTSS) has confirmed the list of official non-working public holiday in Costa Rica for the upcoming calendar year 2021.

In past years (2019-12-28, 2018-12-05, 2017-12-01, 2016-12-12 and 2015-11-30), the list of public holiday in Costa Rica, for the upcoming calendar year, would have been in line with the 2005 Abel Pacheco administration law (2005-03-17) which specified that 4 public holidays would move from mid-week to the following Monday (April 11, July 25, August 15, and October 12), though in subsequent years it has been emptied out of most of its substance (2007-10-05, 2009-06-26, and 2010-10-06).

In a slight departure from the above, for the calendar year 2020, the October 12, Día de Encuentro de Culturas, was replaced with a December 1, Día de la abolición del ejército, public holiday (2019-12-02, 2019-07-18, 2018-12-08, 2017-01-18, 2016-09-19, 2014-11-28, 2014-07-31).

But, last summer, Law No. 9875 was passed to transfer the remaining Costa Rican public holidays of 2020 and 2021 to Fridays, in order to promote internal tourism, and later expanded to include 2022, 2023 and 2024 (2020-07-18, 2020-07-02, 2020-06-02, 2020-06-17, 2020-04-22 and 2020-05-07).
