Costa Rica's Minister of Labour and Social Security (MTSS) has issued the "Comunicado: Disfrute del Feriado del 15 de Setiembre se Adelanta al Lunes 14 de Setiembre", confirming that the upcoming Indepenence Day annual non-working public holiday in Costa Rica, would be observed on September 14, 2020, instead of September 15, 2020.

The aforementioned statement, "El feriado del 15 de setiembre en el que se conmemora 199 años de vida independiente de Costa Rica, este año se adelanta su disfrute para el lunes 14 de setiembre" is a consequence of the recent passage of amendments to the labour code of Costa Rica (paragraph 185 of Law No. 9875), whereby many of the 2020-2024 Costa Rican public holidays were moved to adjoin a nearby weekend (2020-07-18, 2020-07-02, 2020-06-17, 2020-06-02, 2020-05-07 and 2020-04-22).
