The Minister of Tourism of Ecuador, Rosi Prado de Holguín, has confirmed to the media that the previously-announced public holiday of May 25, corresponding the commemoration of the Battle of Pichincha, would remain unchanged, despite the current Covid19 pandemic.
The aforementioned list of 2020 public holidays in Ecuador (2019-11-07) are based on the Suplemento Registro Oficial No.906 (2016-12-21, 2016-12-13, 2016-10-16), which amended the 2003 "Ley Orgánica de Servicio Civil y Carrera Administrativa y de Unificación y Homologación de las Remuneraciones del Sector Público" (2003-12-04), by virtue of which most Ecuadorean public holidays' day off are moved to the nearest weekend, and also applies to regional public holidays in Ecuador ("Si es un feriado local, se hace lo mismo, se cambia a lunes, se hace un puente").
A similar confirmation, of the November 2019 public holidays, was given by Ecuador's Minister of Tourism, notwithstanding the demonstrations that had rocked Ecuador since last October 5th (2019-10-17).
