The Isle of Man Council of Ministers has announced that the upcoming, June 12, Senior Race Day public holiday, had been canceled, due to the cancellation of the T.T. Race in 2020 ("given that the primary purpose of the Bank Holiday - TT racing - is no longer relevant, it is considered appropriate to remove any confusion and cancel this event").

Treasury Minister, Alfred Cannan, also announced that the Isle of Man Council of Ministers plans to declare a one-off public holiday to compensate the aforementioned cancellation of the June 12, 2020, Senior Race Day public holiday ("It is, however, appropriate to consider a further Bank Holiday later in the summer to recognise and celebrate the efforts of health and social care staff, key workers and the whole community in meeting the challenges of the pandemic, and to do so at time when it is hoped some restrictions will have been lowered").

One of the dates being discussed for this Senior Race Day public holiday replacement, is Friday, August 28, 2020 ("This has been discussed with the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers and is provisionally being planned for Friday 28 August").

A definite date for the public holiday, to replace the 2020 Senior Race Day public holiday, is expected next week ("look forward to a formal confirmation taking place next week").

Today's announcement of the cancellation of the 2020 Senior Race Day public holiday, thus modified the list of 2020 public holidays in the Isle of Man, which for the 10th year in a row (2019-06-22, 2018-08-11, 2017-07-11, 2016-08-06, 2015-08-07, 2014-08-09, 2013-07-02, 2012-07-11 and 2011-07-08), had not initially included any one-off public holiday, or additional departures from the list of bank and public holidays in the UK, though it did, from the outset, move the early May bank holiday from May 4 to May 8, 2020, as was done in the UK (2019-06-08).
