The Minister of Labour of the Ivory Coast has issued a communique denying that his ministry had declared Monday, May 25, 2020, as the date of the annual national non-working public holiday in the Ivory Coast on account of the upcoming Aïd el Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday ("Le ministère de l’Emploi et de la Protection Sociale porte à la connaissance de toute la population ivoirienne que le lundi 25 mai 2020, n’est pas un jour férié. Toute information contraire est fausse. Le ministère en appelle à la vigilance de tous.").
Recall that, last year (2019-06-03), the government of the Ivory Coast had declared Tuesday, June 4, 2019, as the date of the annual Aïd el Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday in the Ivory Coast ("jour férié, chômé et payé sur toute l'étendue du territoire national"), a date seemingly based on the Umm al-Qora Islamic calendar as used in Saudi Arabia, as in past years (2018-06-12, 2017-06-24, 2016-07-05, 2015-07-16 and 2014-07-27), which would mean that the yet to be announced date for the 2020 End of Ramadan public holiday would more likely be Sunday, May 24, 2020 ("Le jour de la fête de fin de jeûne musulman, marquant l’Aïd el Fitr est indiqué par le collège du Conseil Supérieur des Imams ( COSIM ) suite à l’observation de la lune. Sur cette base, le dispositif reglementaire relatif aux jours fériés rentre en application").
