Kuwait's Council of Ministers headed by Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Anas Al-Saleh, has decided to declare 3 days of public sector holidays to mark the passing of the late Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah ("official mourning period of 40 days, with the suspension of official departments for three days starting today").

As the weekend in Kuwait changed from Thursday/Friday to Friday/Saturday, in 2007 (2007-06-03), the aforementioned declaration of Tuesday to Thursday, September 29 to October 1, 2020, as public sector holidays, means that the Kuwaiti government sector will be closed until Saturday, October 3, 2020, inclusively.

Earlier this year (2020-01-11), on the occasion of the death of the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos, Kuwait's then Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, had declared 3 consecutive days of public sector holidays in Kuwait, from January 11-13, 2020. It is likely that Oman will reciprocate.
