Madagascar's President, Andry Rajoelina, has announced that contrary to what had been hinted at, last June, when the Independence Day celebrations were canceled, there will not be any compensatory celebration ("Le 14 Octobre sera une journée ordinaire, cette année, elle ne sera dons pas chômée, et il n’y aura pas de fête").
The tentatively scheduled October 14 public holiday would have amended the list of non-working public holidays in Madagascar for the calendar year 2020, as was approved earlier this year (2020-01-04), by Madagascar's Conseil de Gouvernement, on the recommendation of the "Conseil National du Travail".
