The Nepalese Muslim Community has announced that the Moon of Shawwal had not been sighted in Kathmandu, nor in any part of the country, and therefore that the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday would be observed on Monday, May 25, 2020.
Recal that, earlier this week (2020-05-22), the Government of Nepal decided to grant a non-working public holiday in Nepal, on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan), but, as per Nepalese Government Spokesperson, Yubaraj Khatiwada, the date that public holiday had not yet been set.
For a few hours, an announcement by the Nepalese government circulated, setting the date the aforementioned Eid-ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday as Sunday, May 24, 2020. But this was promptly corrected.
