Nicaraguan August 2020 Public Holidays

Nicaragua's Minister of Labour has issued a communiqué announcing Saturday, August 1, and Monday, August 10, 2020, as the dates of the upcoming annual fully-paid non-working public holidays in Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua.

As was done in the past (2019-07-31, 2018-07-31, 2017-07-31, 2016-07-25, 2015-07-31, 2014-07-31, 2012-07-30, 2011-07-27 and 2009-07-30), the aforementioned communiqué confirms that the August 1 and 10 annual public holidays are limited, geographically, to the city of Managua (the capital of Nicaragua), rather than the similarly-named, much larger Departamento de Managua ("Se aclara, los días uno y diez de agosto son días de asueto celebrados únicamente a nivel Municipal de Managua, por lo que l@s trabajador@s deben incorporarse a sus labores los días viernes dos y lunes doce de agosto del año en curso respectivamente").

As was the case last year, as well, the aforementioned communiqué rules-out the declaration of a day in lieu public holiday, due to the fact that August 1st falls on a Saturday ("Primero de enero, Jueves y Viernes Santo, primero de mayo y 19 de julio, son los días feriados, entre otros, los feriados nacionales compensados por otro día. Por tanto los días 1 y 10 de agosto no gozan de este privilegio por ser días de asueto, celebrados únicamente a nivel de Managua").
