Late last night, Paraguay's President, Mario Abdo Benítez, signed the Decree 3668 which moves the upcoming Peace of Chaco public holiday from Monday, June 15, 2020, to Friday, June 12, 2020 ("En razón de presentarse un nuevo escenario como consecuencia de la declaración de emergencia nacional ante la pandemia del Covid-19, la Senatur recomienda mantener el feriado el 12 de junio el día viernes").
Yesterday's Decree 3668 thus amends the list of 2020 public holidays in Paraguay, as contained in the "Decreto número 2757" (2019-10-28), also signed by the President of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, and which included the moving of 2 of the annual non-working public holidays of Paraguay to adjoin a nearby weekend.
One of these 2 Paraguayan 2020 public holidays that were decreed to move, was the Peace of Chaco public holiday. The other 2020 public holiday that is set to move is the September 29, Día de la Victoria de Boquerón, whose status remains undecided.
Eight years ago (2012-08-03), Paraguay's then President, Federico Franco, issued the Decreto presidencial N° 9393 which finally implemented the Ley 1723 del 29 de junio de 2001 (Que Autoriza Al Poder Ejecutivo A Trasladar Los Feriados Nacionales Al Dia Lunes) which gave the president of Paraguay the authority to move any, or all, mid-week public holidays to a nearby Monday (except New Year, Independence Day, día de La Virgen de Caacupé, and Maundy Thursday and Good Friday).
