Punjab 2021 Public Holidays Announced

An official spokesperson of the Government of India's state of Punjab has announced its annual list of public holidays and restricted holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2021 ("government offices will remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays, there will be 26 scheduled holidays and 31 restricted holidays out of which employees can choose any two holidays").

The aforementioned notification of the annual list of the days which will be public holidays in the state of Punjab for the upcoming calendar year 2021, are contained in the Punjab Government Notification PP-30MISC/35/2020-2PP3/I/118774/2020/1 issued by the Government of Punjab, covering Government Holidays and Restricted Holidays in India's state of Punjab for the upcoming calendar year 2021.

In line with past years' lists of public holidays in India's state of Punjab, (2019-12-23, 2018-12-23 and 2016-12-18), apart from a recent exception (2017-12-28), the list of Government Holidays and Restricted Holidays in India's state of Punjab for the upcoming calendar year 2020, is back to the historical average of about 25 gazetted holidays and 30 restricted holidays, while later one-off announcements of public holidays in India's state of Punjab are always possible (2020-11-17, 2020-10-07, 2020-04-12, 2020-04-07, 2019-11-08, 2019-08-07, 2018-12-27, 2018-11-03, 2018-10-08, 2018-09-17, 2018-09-08, 2018-08-14, 2018-06-28, 2018-06-16, 2017-12-30, 2017-12-24, 2017-09-01 and 2017-04-22).

In addition, and as confirmed by the aforementioned official spokesperson, the Government of Punjab has also listed 15 afternoon holidays, for employees to join Nagar Kirtan/Shobha Yatra, out of which employees will be permitted to avail any four second half day holidays ("In addition to the above holidays each employee will be permitted to avail himself/herself any four (4) second half day holidays to be chosen by him/her to join the Nagar Klrtan/Sobha Yatra In connection with the list of occasion given below during the Calendar Year, 2021 and the concerned Controlling Authority shall ensure to maintain the record of such holidays.").

These 15 afternoon holidays are on the occasion of the following: Birthday of Sri Guru Goblnd Singh Ji, Birthday of Sri Guru Ravldas Ji, Maha Shlvratri, Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, Vaisakhi, Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, Janam Ashtami, Id-ul-Fitr, Birthday of Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji, Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid), Birthday of Maharishi Valmiki Ji, Birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, and Christmas day.
