The government of Timor Leste has issued an announcement of the declaration of 2 additional year-end public sector holidays, on December 23 and 24, 2020 ("Day-Off on the December 23rd (afternoon) and December 24th (all day), 2020").

The declaration of year-end public sector holidays is a staple of life in Timor Leste (2019-12-18, 2018-12-19, 2017-12-29 and 2017-12-20.

As usual (2020-10-29, 2020-08-28, 2020-04-08, 2020-03-16 and 2012-04-04), the Secretariat of State of the Council of Ministers of Timor Leste, states that the aforementioned decision is based on law No.10/2005, which overhauled Timor Leste's public holidays (2020-02-19).

The announcement also contains the usual unnecessary justifications "Given that the celebrations of Christmas Day are traditionally held in family" and "Given the practice that has been followed over the years" and "Given that it is customary for many people to move from their places of residence, during the Christmas period, in order to hold family gatherings".
