Tonga 2020-2021 Year-End Public Holidays

Tonga's Prime Minister's Office has issued a communiqué announcing that the Cabinet of the Government of Tonga had once again declared a 2-week period of additional public sector holidays in Tonga ("The Prime Minister’s Office wishes to inform the public of the period of Christmas Vacation 2020/2021 for the Public Service, as approved by Cabinet on 23rd October 2020. The Government Christmas Vacation 2020/2021 will be observed from 8:30am Monday 21st of December, 2020 and ends at 4:30pm Friday 1st of January, 2021").

The aforementioned 2-week period of additional public sector holidays in Tonga, from Saturday, December 19, 2020, until Sunday, January 3, 2021, inclusively, are in addition to the list of 2020 non-working public holidays in Tonga which were previously announced (2019-11-20).

As on previous occasions, the announcement goes on to state that "After public servants resume on January 4, they will finish early at 4:00pm daily during that week for the annual Uike Lotu (Prayer Week of the New Year)".

A similar 2-week period of non-working public sector holidays was declared in past years (2019-11-01, 2018-11-15, 2017-10-24, 2016-10-26, 2015-11-04, 2014-12-21 and 2013-11-22).
