The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, has declared Saturday, August 29, 2020, as a one-off public holiday in Uganda, to be used as a national day of prayer.

The aforementioned declaration states that "A certain Ugandan came to me and told me that God had told him in a vision that I should organise national prayers, scientifically organised, for God to deliver us from Covid-19" leading to the logical conclusion that "Therefore, by the powers given to the President of Uganda by Section 2(2) of the Public Holidays Act, I declare the 29th of August 2020, a day of National Prayers and a Public Holiday. Stay in your houses or compounds and pray".

One-off public holidays are relatively common in Uganda (2018-07-05, 2016-05-09, 2016-02-23, 2016-02-10, 2011-05-09, 2011-03-11, 2011-03-07, 2011-02-21, and 2011-02-15), but they are usually election-related.
