The Information and Education Manager of the Department of Disaster Management of the Office of the Deputy Governor of the British Virgin Islands, Chrystall Kanyuck-Abel, has released a further amended list of the 2021 public holidays in the British Virgin Islands ("Acting in accordance with Section 5 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 199), as amended, Cabinet has approved the following public holidays for 2021").
In 2001, a Public Holidays Review Commission had been created, tasked with the review of the list of annual public holidays in the British Virgin Islands, and their method of calculation (2001-05-18). But, that commission's report laid dormant for almost 20 years.
Then, last summer, a new Public Holidays Review Committee was created, once again tasked with the review of the list of annual public holidays in the British Virgin Islands, specifically meant to be basing itself on the recommendations of the 2001 commission (2020-07-08).
The 2020 Public Holidays Review Committee published its draft recommendations in early October 2020, asking for public feedback, before finalizing its recommendations (2020-10-01).
Based on these recommendations, the Office of the Deputy Governor of the British Virgin Islands finally issued the official listing the 2021 public holidays in the British Virgin Islands, in late December (2020-12-18), much later than usual (2019-10-01, 2018-10-19, 2017-11-07, ...).
That amended list of 2021 public holidays was later confirmed when the Office of the Deputy Governor of the British Virgin Islands re-issued the amended listing the 2021 public holidays in the British Virgin Islands (2021-01-18).
Today's further amended list of British Virgin Islands public holidays includes a different date for the new public holiday commemorating the 1949 Great March and Restoration Day.
