Chilean Bill to Amend May 15-16 Public Holidays

The Chilean Senate has given its green light to a bill which would decree as inalienable public holidays, the days in which the already postponed regional and municipal elections of 2021 will be held, namely May 15 and 16, 2021.

The aforementioned legislation come of the heels of the recent revision (2021-04-05) to the list of bank holidays and non-working public holidays in Chile for the calendar year 2021 (2019-10-04).

When Chile's Congress voted to postpone the elections, both houses rejected a proposal to declare these postponed voting days as mandatory and inalienable holidays.

These recent changes, in addition to those announced last spring (2020-04-01), concern the regional and municipal elections of 2021 ("Elecciones Alcaldes y Gobernadores Regionales Irrenunciable"), and relate to the status of May 15 and 16, 2021, as inalienable holidays (irrenunciable).
