Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has announced that the upcoming October War public holiday would be observed on Thursday, October 7, 2021, instead of its traditional date of October 6.

The aforementioned announcement, which "applies to ministries, governmental bodies, public facilities, municipalities, public enterprises, and public business sector companies", is expected to be followed by a similar announcement by the Egyptian Minister of Manpower, Mohamed Saafan, for private sector employees, as was done in the past (2021-08-08).

Last year (2020-06-28), the Government of Egypt announced that it would start moving fixed-date mid-week public holidays to the following Thursday "to give citizens a chance to have a long weekend".

This change took effect beginning last autumn (2020-10-05 and 2020-10-01), has been applied since then on each occasion (2021-08-05, 2021-06-26, 2021-04-28, 2021-04-22, 2021-01-21 and 2021-01-20).
