The President of the Gambia, Adama Barrow, has declared 2 public holidays; on Monday, December 27, 2021, on account of Christmas, and on Monday, January 3, 2022, on account of the upcoming New Year 2022.

Today's announcement reads "The Public is hereby informed that His Excellency President Adama Barrow, acting under section 76 of the 1997 Constitution, is pleased to declare Monday December 27th, 2021 and Monday January 3rd, 2022, as public holidays throughout The Gambia".

The declaration of 2 day in lieu public holidays in the Gambia for the end-of-year 2021, is in line with the recent trend by Gambia's President, Adama Barrow, of declaring day in lieu public holidays as well as extending the traditionally 1-day public holidays to 2 days (2021-10-16, 2021-05-11, 2020-07-29, 2020-05-22, 2019-06-03, 2018-12-24, 2017-06-22, 2018-08-20, 2016-09-09), though there have been recent exceptions (2021-07-16).
