A statement signed by Ghana's Minister-designate for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, announces that Ghana's President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had declared Monday, March 8, 2021, as an additional public holiday in Ghana, due to the annual March 6, Independence Day public holiday falling on a weekend in 2021, in accordance with section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days, 2001 (Act 601).
The aforementioned announcement states that "In view of the fact that 6 March, 2021 falls on Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana has by Executive Instrument (EI), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (601), declared Monday, 8 March, 2021 as a Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.".
The observance of a public holiday on Monday, March 8, 2021, is in line with the list of 2021 public holidays in Ghana, as announced in the "Statutory Public Holidays And Commemorative Days In The Republic Of Ghana For The Year 2021", released earlier this year (2021-01-04).
