The Chief Minister of the Government of India's state of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, has announced that, from next year, Chhat Puja would be declared as a restricted holiday in Haryana.

Chhat Puja was not included in the list of 2021 Haryana public holidays, as contained in the General Administration Department Notification No. 28/67 /2018-3GSII covering General Holidays, Restricted Holidays, and Holidays declared under N.I. Act, 1881, released late last year (2020-12-03).

This was also the case in many other Indian states, though many did eventually declare one or two days of public holidays on account of the 2021 Chhat Puja (2021-11-09, 2021-11-08, 2021-11-05 and 2021-10-25).
