Johor's Menteri Besar, Hasni Mohammad, has announced that the government of Malaysia's State of Johor would declare Wednesday, December 1, 2021, as a one-off special public holiday in Malaysia's State of Johor, should the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football team win the Malaysia Cup on November 30.

Individual Malaysian states often declare one-off non-working public holidays on account of football and sport victories (2019-11-02, 2018-10-28, 2018-10-26, 2017-11-04, 2017-11-01, 2017-02-15, 2016-10-31, 2016-09-24, 2016-05-14, 2015-12-12, 2015-12-12, 2015-10-31, 2015-05-19, 2014-11-02, 2013-11-01, 2013-10-30, 2013-06-13, 2012-10-15, 2012-07-18, 2012-05-14, 2011-11-21, 2011-06-13, 2011-06-11, 2010-12-30, 2010-12-29, 2010-10-30, 2009-11-04,...), in particular the Malaysian states of Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Johor (2013-11-23), where the day after most important matches, Sunday, is a regular working day.

The reason for the need to declare a Sunday, non-working, public holiday, is that in Malaysia's States of Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, where the weekend has traditionally been observed on Friday/Saturday, joined by Johor, a few years ago (2013-11-23).

The declaration of a nationwide one-off public holiday in Malaysia, due to a sports event, is much rarer (2017-08-31).
