Malawi's Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi, has signed the letter reference No SPC/S/OOl granting public sector holidays, from Friday, December 24, 2021, until Monday, January 3, 2022, inclusively.

The aforementioned announcement ("The extended holidays are meant to enable civil servants to celebrate the Christmas and New Year’s festivities with their families and give them adequate time to rest.") is in addition to the list of official non-working public holidays in Malawi for the calendar years 2021, as released by the Malawi Government last year (2020-12-28).

The extended Christmas public sector holidays are a regular occurrence in Malawi (2019-12-05, 2018-12-12 and 2017-12-01), and are specified as being reserved for the public sector ("the granting of this extended period of holidays does not mean declaration of public holidays in Malawi").
