Mauritius 2022 Public Holidays Announced

The Cabinet of the Government of Mauritius has announced the official annual list of the non-working public holidays in Mauritius for the upcoming calendar year 2022 ("le Cabinet des ministres a validé la liste des jours fériés de l’année prochaine").

For many years (2014-07-26, 2013-06-14, 2012-06-02 and 2011-09-14), no new annual non-working public holiday had been declared in Mauritius.

Then, the list of annual non-working public holidays in Mauritius for 2016 included a non-working public holiday for the Tamizh Puttaandu (Varusha Pirappu or Tamil New Year), apparently in compensation for no non-working public holiday being declared in 2016 in Mauritius for Thaipoosam Cavadee (2015-06-14).

This seemed confirmed when the list of 2017 list of non-working public holidays in Mauritius was announced (2016-05-21), in which the apparent quid pro quo seemed confirmed with the Tamizh Puttaandu public holiday of Mauritius set to alternate every year with Thaipoosam Cavadee, as was already the case for the Assumption and All Saints annual non-working public holidays of Mauritius.

However, this was not the case afterward, namely for the 2018-2019-2020-2021 public holidays in Mauritius (2020-07-03, 2019-06-07, 2018-05-26 and 2017-05-13).
