The Government of Australia's State of New South Wales (NSW) has released its annually expanded list of official New South Wales non-working public holidays, now including public holidays for the calendar year 2023.
The "Public Holidays Bill 2010", which took effect as of 2012, followed the recommendations of the independent inquiry that was conducted by Professor Joellen Riley, at the request of the then NSW government (2009-05-31 and 2009-08-18)
The list of 2023 NSW public holidays mentions that "The public holiday standard in the Public Holidays Act 2010 provides that when Australia Day (26 January) falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there will be no public holiday on that day and instead the following Monday is to be the public holiday." and that "The public holiday standard in the Act provides that when New Year's Day, Christmas Day or Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday there is to be an additional public holiday on the following Monday or Tuesday.".
