Pakistan's Federal Interior Ministry has announced that a second day of public holiday had been declared in Pakistan on account of the upcoming Ashura, so that the 9th and 10th of Muharram will be public holidays, corresponding to Wednesday and Thursday, August 18-19, 2021.
Earlier this week (2021-08-09), the chairman of Pakistan's Moon sighting committee, Moulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, announced that Youm-e-Ashur (the 10th day of Muharram) would be on Thursday, August 19, 2021, in line with the the list of 2021 public holidays in Pakistan, as announced in the circular "Public and Optional Holidays for the calendar year, 2021", signed by the Deputy Secretary, Flak Sher Virk, late last year (2020-12-10).
However, as we mentioned in that news brief, there was always the possibility that the federal government of Pakistan would extend the public holiday for the upcoming Ashura holiday of Pakistan, for a second day, as was done last year (2020-08-25).
