Qatar 2021 National Day Public Holidays December 18-19

The Qatari Amiri Diwan has announced that, on the occasion of the upcoming Qatar National Day, on Saturday, December 18, 2021, the following Sunday, December 19, 2021, would also be an official public holiday in Qatar ("As Qatar National Day falls on a Saturday this year, Sunday will be an extra day off instead").

December 18 was made into an annual public holiday by virtue of Qatar Law No. 61 of 2007 (2007-06-22).

In compensation for this new public holiday, September 3 is no longer a public holiday in Qatar, since 2007 (2007-08-22).

The change was later made permanent by the "Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers No. (6) of 2008, Setting the Official Holidays in the State and Organizing Work thereon" guidelines on official public holidays, and bank holidays, in Qatar (2008-02-06).

In the past, whenever December 18, the annual Qatari National Day public holiday, falls on Wednesday, one day away from the following Qatari weekend (2019-12-16, 2017-12-16 and 1999-09-18), or on the weekend (2015-12-17, 2013-12-17, 2010-12-15 and 2009-12-11), an additional non-working public holiday is declared in Qatar, though not systematically (2020-12-14).

Recall that, since 2000, the weekends in Qatar are Fridays and Saturdays (1999-09-18).
