The Sri Lankan Acting Director General of Government Information, Ruwan SathKumara, has issued the Release No:333/2021 declaring Monday, April 12, 2021, as a special government holiday, to link the weekend with the upcoming annual Sinhala and Tamil New Year public holidays of Sri Lanka.
According to a separate statement by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, J.J. Ratnasiri, "the decision was made on the instructions of the President to benefit those who would be celebrating the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on the 13th and 14th of April".
The declaration of Monday, April 12, 2021, as a special government holiday, thus amends the official list of Sri Lankan public holidays for the calendar year 2021 as announced last summer (2020-06-27).
