Zimbabwe's Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Ministry has announced that Sunday, February 21, 2021, would be the date of the upcoming National Youth Day public holiday in Zimbabwe ("the public should take note that Monday has been made a public holiday").
The aforementioned announcement that Sunday, February 21, 2021, is a public holiday in Zimbabwe ("In terms of the Extraordinary Government Gazette of 2 October 2020, on the Public Holidays in 2021, Sunday 21st February is the National Youth Day") in in line with the the dates of the 2021 non-working public holidays in Zimbabwe, as announced last autumn (2020-10-03).
The statement by the Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Ministry goes on to state that "Section 1 (i) of the Public Holidays and Prohibitions of the Business Act [Chapter 10:21] provides that: when a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday following shall be a public holiday; since the National Youth Day falls on a Sunday. It therefore follows that the public holiday will rollover to Monday 22 February 2021. Please be guided accordingly.".
The National Youth Day public holiday of Zimbabwe was added, a few years ago (2017-08-19), initially as Robert Gabriel Mugabe National Youth Day, a new annual non-working public holiday in Zimbabwe, in honour of Robert Mugabe, as announced back in the summer of 2017 by Zimbabwe's Home Affairs Minister, Ignatius Chombo.
It was later confirmed and included in the list of 2019 public holidays in terms of the Zimbabwe Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act (2018-02-20 and 2017-11-22).
