Argentina's President, Alberto Fernández, has issued the Decree 16/2022 to be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Argentina, which declares Thursday and Friday, January 13 and 14, 2022, as afternoon public sector holidays "due to the increase in consumption forecast for today and tomorrow due to the heat wave".

The aforementioned decree 16/2022, signed by Argentine President Alberto Fernández and the Chief of Cabinet, Juan Manzur, states that "In order to reduce electricity consumption, on January 13 and 14, 2022, starting at 12 noon, the agents of all jurisdictions, agencies and entities of the National Public Sector must perform the provision of services through the modality of remote work provision, if this is possible." thus amending the list of 2022 official public holidays in Argentina announced last autumn (2021-11-13).

This declaration of a series of year-end public sector holidays, was a relatively frequent occurrence (2015-12-22, 2014-12-15, 2013-12-17, 2011-12-16, 2011-12-14, 2010-12-11, 2009-12-22, 2008-12-10 and 2007-12-05) in Argentina, until a few years ago, but started again a couple of years ago (2021-12-17, 2020-12-16 and 2019-12-19).
