Guatemala's President, Alejandro Giammattei, has authorized the gazette publication of the governmental document number 101-2022 of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, which declares a public sector holiday on Monday, May 2, 2022, on account of May 1st falling on a Sunday this year.
Today's announcement is a reversal of last week's announcement by the Government of Guatemala that there were no plans to move the date of the upcoming Sunday, May 1st, 2022, public holiday of Guatemala to the following Monday (2022-04-16).
The governmental document number 101-2022 of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, applies to public servants of centralized and decentralized entities of the public administration, and was also signed by Rafael Rodríguez Pellecer, Minister of Labor and Social Welfare and María Ramírez, from the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
The declaration of a public sector holiday on Monday, May 2, 2022, represents a partial amendment of the list of 2022 Guatemala public holidays (2021-12-10) and the 2020 ruling by Guatemala's Constitutional Court (2020-04-16), removing the May 1st and October 20 public holidays from the scope of the 2018 Law of Internal Tourism (2018-10-11, 2018-09-26 and 2018-08-09).
