Indian Central Government Declares Ambedkar Public Holiday On April 14

India's Central Government's Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has released the vide notification F.No.12/4/2020-JCA ("Declaration Of Closed Holiday On 14th April 2022") declaring a public holiday on Thursday, April 14, 2022, on account of the upcoming birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The main body of this vide notification, signed by S.P. Pant, Deputy Secretary to the Govt. of India, reads as follows, "It has been decided to declare the 14th April, 2022 (Thursday), as a closed holiday, on account of the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, for all Central Government Offices, including Industrial Establishments, throughout India, by invoking the power under Section 25 of Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881.".

The aforementioned declaration of a one-off public sector holiday on April 14, 2022, thus amends the terms of the "Holidays to be observed in Central Government Offices during the year 2022" as set out in the Government Order No. F.53/461/GAD/CN/2021/4041-4089 and the Office Memorandum F. No. 12/5/2021/JCA-2 (2021-12-14 and 2021-10-26).
