Earlier tonight, Mali's Minister of Religious Affairs, after consultations with Mali's Commission nationale d’observation de la lune, announced that Sunday, May 1st, 2022, would be the date of the upcoming non-working public holiday in Mali for the Aïd al-Fitr (End of Ramadan).

The announcement of Sunday, May 1st, 2022, as the 2022 Mali public holiday for the Aïd al-Fitr is an amendment to the list of 2022 public holidays in the Mali (2022-01-10), although the Minister of Religious Affairs did add that "La journée du lundi est déclarée chômée et payée".

Astronomically, the reported sighting of the Moon of Shawwal, earlier tonight, cannot have been correct. This is the 5th consecutive year in which Mali declares its End of Ramadan public holiday earlier than any country, and before the new Moon (2021-05-11, 2020-05-22, 2019-06-04 and 2018-06-14).
